Man watches on his home cameras as burglar breaks into basement

LIBERTY, Mo. — Police are trying to identify the person caught on video burglarizing a home in Liberty Monday afternoon. Among the items stolen were jewelry and a gun.

The suspect is seen a home surveillance video approaching the house in the 1900 block of Buckingham Road at about 3 p.m.

“He was out here when I was inside still with my kids,” the homeowner said.

The man, described as a black man with a goatee, wearing red or orange shoes and grey sweats, came out of the woods and began looking into the home’s windows and checking its doors.

The homeowner says he then broke a basement window and went into the home with a gun.

“Glad I’m here still actually, since he had a gun. I’m here and my kids are all right,” the homeowner said.

Sprint has slowest 4G service, according to magazine testers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We all know how frustrating it can be when you try to get on the internet on your phone, and it takes forever to load the webpages you want to look at.

PC Magazine conducted a study to see which phone companies have the fastest and most reliable service and Sprint is at the bottom.

The magazine tested Long Term Evolution service, or LTE – better known as 4G service – in 30 cities, and AT&T took the top spot.

Nationally, AT&T scored a 97, while Verizon scored an 89 and Sprint scored at 44.
T-Mobile didn’t get a score because it doesn’t have 4G service in enough cities.

Sprint’s score was better in Kansas City, where the phone company is headquartered, but still fared at the bottom. In fact T-Mobile’s LTE service in Kansas City scored higher.

Local ratings gave AT&T a score of 94. T-Mobile and Verizon received an 86 and locally, Sprint scored a 60.

Man dies during arrest; police used stun gun

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police say a man died Monday morning after officers took him into custody. They confirmed they used a stun gun to help subdue the man at a home near 53rd Terrace and North Brighton.

Neighbors called police just after 6 a.m. after seeing a man acting strangely and prowling around their yards.

A woman left her house and saw the man jumping on the hood of her car parked in the driveway. When she got into her car, she told police, the suspicious man got inside with her and would not get out.

That’s when police arrived. Officers found the man still inside the car and refusing to get out. Police say they managed to pull him out, and once out of the car, he resisted officers again.

Kindness and cleanup after storm sends water gushing into Westport boutique

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wind and rain did some damage that left many cleaning up Sunday. But for one unique business, it’s not just cleaning up, but trying to find a way to open up again, and the owner isn’t doing it alone.

Angie Snow, the owner of MoVi Modern Vintage Mobile Boutique, said she is getting help from her neighbor who knows a little something about losing a business.

“Just the kindness of a neighbor or anyone is really great,” Snow said.

Snow said it started Saturday when the clouds darkened and wind and rain came pouring down.  Snow runs her boutique out of a 1962 Airstreamer.  She said it was parked on Westport Rd. and Mill St.  Snow said when the storm rolled in, the waters in that intersection started rising.

Patriot Guard members honor and protect at funeral of soldier

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Justin Sisson, the soldier from Overland Park killed while serving his country in Afghanistan, was honored Saturday by people who didn’t know him personally, but who knew his heart and his loyalty to all he loved.

Members of the Patriot Guard were vigilant at Sisson’s funeral. The Patriot Guard is a motorcycle group whose mission it is to honor servicemen and women and their families by keeping the peace at funerals, blocking protesters from disturbing those in mourning.

“We are here to show our support and protect the family from outside influences.  We are here to escort the family as well as our hero to his final resting place,” said Deems “Doc” Peterson, a Patriot Guard founder.

Many who attended the funeral didn’t know Lt. Sisson, but they were there to support his family and recognize his sacrifice.
